Sacred and Immaculate Hearts

What is the Devotion to the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts of Jesus and Mary?

To show honor the the Heart of Jesus and Mary is to consider and acknowledge a pure an perfect love. Of course, Jesus is God and so we worship Him, we remember his mother who suffered with him and loved all because she knew He loved all.

The devotion to the Sacred Heart was made especially popular by St. Margaret Mary Alacoque to honor the Heart that loves us so much. Read more about the Sacred Heart of Jesus in my How to Draw the Sacred Heart of Jesus tutorial!

The devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary became more widespread after Mary appeared the the children at Fatima. Mary asked Sister Lucia to make reparation to her Immaculate Heart. Honoring Mary’s request brings people closer to Jesus!

Clay Ornaments of the Two Hearts

Materials:

  • Clay – any air dry clay is great, feel free to use a baking clay as well!
  • Little and big hands ready to work together!
  • Paint, we used acrylic
  • Paint Brush
  • Scissor
  • String
  • Pencil (or other item to poke a whole through the clay)

The Sacred Heart of Jesus: First we cut out a heart, made the crown of thorns, added the cross and the fire, and finally the wound in the side. Using a pencil we poked a hole hear the top and let it air dry for a few days.

The Immaculate Heart of Mary: We started out with some of the same things! We cut out a heart, added the cross and the fire and the wound.

We did not make a sword but that would be a great addition! Instead of a crown of thorns we have a crown of roses! We added some leaves to help the roses stick better. To make the roses we took several small pieces of clay and folded them around each other. This how to draw a rose tutorial might help with the concept of over lapping!

We painted them and placed string through the holes so the were ready to hang!
